Abigail Spencer Says Meghan Markle’s Netflix Series Will Give People ‘an Authentic Look at the Woman I Love’

“I learned a lot from her and she actually gets to teach me something on the show,” Spencer said of ‘With Love, Meghan’

Abigail Spencer is excited for audiences to get an “authentic look” at Meghan Markle.

Spencer, 43, appeared at the American Heart Association Red Dress Collection Concert on Thursday, Jan. 30, where she exclusively told PEOPLE about her friendship with her former Suits costar — and what to expect from Meghan’s new Netflix series With Love, Meghan.

“What I’m so excited about is that people will really get an authentic look at the woman that I love and know,” Spencer tells PEOPLE.

“Also, you’re gonna learn a lot,” she laughs. “I learned a lot from her and she actually gets to teach me something on the show. I’m just so grateful.”

“It’s really from her heart. It really is with love,” Spencer says.

Along with Spencer, the Duchess of Sussex’s new show includes appearances from Mindy KalingRoy Choi, Tatcha founder Vicky Tsai, and chef Alice, amongst many more. The series is an “inspiring series” that “reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming, blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old,” per the press release.

The eight episodes were initially slated for a Jan. 15 release. However, on Jan. 12, the Duchess of Sussex decided to postpone the release date due to the Los Angeles wildfires that were ablaze.

Spencer and Meghan starred on the USA Network legal drama, which ran for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019. Meghan departed the series in 2018 ahead of her marriage to Prince HarryPatrick J. AdamsGabriel MachtSarah Rafferty and Rick Hoffman also starred in the series.

In the summer of 2023, the series drew new (and repeated) viewership on Netflix — as the streaming platform currently houses eight of nine seasons of the legal drama. After the series found new and former fans, NBCUniversal announced that a spinoff, Suits LA, had been picked up for a series order in July 2024.

Spencer told PEOPLE at the AHA Red Dress Collection Concert how excited she is for the new spinoff — and the “beautiful new cast led by Stephen Amell.”

“We want it to be a huge hit, a huge success,” she said. “I’m just so happy for Aaron Korsh and the whole team that they get to do more.”

With Love, Meghan will be available to stream on Netflix on Tuesday, March 4.
